The 4 Quls are a series of four Short and powerful Surahs in the last chapter of the Holy Quran. These are Surah Al-Kafiroun, Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, and Surah An-Nas, these four surahs are also called protective surahs and everyone can be memorized them easily.

These were recommended by our Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and reciting these 4 Qul Surahs (char Qul) on a daily basis will protect the Muslims from black magic, evil eye, whispers of Shaitaan, and Shirk (polytheism). 

The best time to read these supplications is before going to bed, as it will protect you throughout the night and if they are recited at Fajar time, they will be safe for the whole day.

It is recited by Muslims during times of distress, especially when they feel they are being attacked by black magic or any other form of witchcraft.

Apart from this, The Aayat-ul-Kursi is also recited to protect oneself against physical harm and spiritual illness All four surahs begin with the Arabic word “Qul” which means “say”. These four Qul surahs are:

  1. Surah Al Kafiroon (Disbelievers) – 109
  2. Surah Al-Ikhlas (The Perfection) – 112
  3. Surah Al-Falaq (The Dawn) – 113
  4. Surah An-Naas (Mankind) – 114

Surah Al-Kafirun, also known as the “Chapter of the Disbelievers,” is the 109th chapter of the Quran and it consists of 6 verses. It begins with the phrase “Qul yaa ayyuhal kafirun,” which translates to “Say: O you disbelievers!” This Surah is believed to provide protection against disbelief and the negative effects of disbelief, including arrogance and ignorance.

Importance and Benefits of Surah Al-Kafirun

It narrated by Farwah bin Nawfal (RA) that:
when he came to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and said: “O Messenger of Allah, tell me something that I may say when I go to my bed.” So Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: “Recite: Say: ‘O you disbelievers Suran Al-Kafirun’ for verily it is a refusal of Shirk.”

Surah Al-Ikhlas, also known as the “Chapter of Sincerity,” is the 112th chapter of the Quran and it consists of 4 verses.. It begins with the phrase “Qul huwallahu ahad,” which translates to “Say: He is Allah, the One.” This Surah is believed to provide spiritual protection, as it teaches the oneness of Allah and the importance of sincerity in one’s beliefs and actions.

its narrated by Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri (RA) that:
A man heard another reciting Surat Al-Ikhlas over and over again. The next morning he came to the prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and informed him about it as if he considered it to be of little reward. On that, the prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, “By Him in Whose Hand my soul is, this Surah is equal to one-third of the Quran.”Its narrated by Uqbah bin Amir:
The prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) ordered me to recite Al-Mu’awwidhatain at the end of every prayer (Salat).

Surah Al-Falaq, also known as the “Chapter of the Dawn,” is the 113th chapter of the Quran and it consists of 5 verses. It begins with the phrase “Qul a’udhu bi Rabbi l-Falaq,” which translates to “Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of the Dawn.” This Surah is believed to provide protection against the negative effects of the night and dawn, including nightmares and evil spirits. The Surah also teaches that one should seek refuge in Allah from the evil of what He has created.

Please Note that Surah al-Falaq (113) and Surah al-Nas (114) are among the two surahs seeking refuge in Allah. These Surahs were revealed together, hence the common name of both is Mu’awwidhatayn (Mauzatain).

Its narrated by Uqbah bin Amir:
The prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) ordered me to recite Al-Mu’awwidhatain at the end of every prayer (Salat).

Surah An-Nas, also known as the “Chapter of Mankind,” is the 114th chapter of the Quran and it consists of 6 verses. It begins with the phrase “Qul a’udhu bi Rabbi n-Nas,” which translates to “Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of Mankind.” This Surah is believed to provide protection against the negative influences of mankind, including envy, malice, and evil intentions. The Surah also teaches that one should seek refuge in Allah from the mischief of mankind and Jinn.

Importance and Benefits of Surah An-Nas

Its Narrated by Hazrat Aisha (RA):
Whenever prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) became sick, he would recite Al-Mu’awwidhatain (Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas) and then blow his breath over his body. When he became seriously ill, I used to recite these two Surahs and rub his hands over his body hoping for its blessings.

Are there 3 or 4 Quls?

Some Islamic scholars say that except for Surah Al-Kafirun, only the last 3 Surahs are included in Qul, But there are four such surahs in the Quran that start with the word Qul.
