What are the mauzatain Surahs?

There are two small Surahs from the last chapter of the Holy Quran. These Surah names are Surah-al-Falaq and surah-An-Naas Together they are commonly referred to as the Mauzatain surah. Its also known as al-mu Awwidhatayn in the Arabic language.

The al-mu Awwidhatayn surahs in Islam are known as protecting Surahs. Surahs Al-Falaq and An-Naas protect from heavenly calamities. E.g Strom, earthquake, flood, and the wind. Because there is no better way to seek refuge in ALLAH than Mauzatain.

The narrated by Uqbah Ibn Amir (RA): While we were traveling with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) from Jaffa to AbuWa, a sudden storm came and darkness fell all around. After that Hazrat Muhammad (ﷺ) started seeking refuge in Allah by reciting Surah Mu’azzatain. (Sunan Abu Dawud | Hadith No 2162).

How many mauzatain Surahs are there?

There are 2 surahs in the Holy Quran (the two suras in which refuge with Allah has been sought).

Al-Falaq (113),

An-Naas (114),

Mauzatain surah benefits (fazilat) With Hadith References – (al mu awwidhatayn)

It is narrated on the authority of Uqbah bin Amir (RA) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to me: Shall I not teach you Surahs which are superior to all Surahs and those who recite them? Then He teach me Surah Falaq and Surah Nas and then offer the prayer and then after offering the prayer came to me and he asked me: O Uqbah, do you not understand the virtue of these Surahs then Muhammad said whenever going to bed and after waking up then read these two surahs (Sunan Nisai | Hadith No 5439).

Come in another tradition the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to recite Surah Mauzatain before going to bed and after waking up. (Sunan Nisai | Hadith No 5434).

The Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) has commanded us to recite Surah Al-Muzzatin after every prayer. (Silsila Ahadess Us Sahiha | Hadith No 1523).

The Mauzatain Surahs protect us from the evil eye, the influence of the devils, black magic (Jado), and the whispers. (Sunan Nisai | Hadith No 5434).

Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to seek refuge from the eyes of jinn and humans until the Mu’awzaatin (Surat al-Falaq and Surat al-Naas) were revealed. When these surahs were revealed, you took them both and left them other surahs. (Jamia At Tarmidi | Hadith No 2058).

When Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was bewitched, so Hazrat Jibrail (AS) advise him to recite Mauzatain After reading it, Muhammad (ﷺ) was healed. (Tabrani Hadith | No 2761).

All Muslims are encouraged to recite later Surahs. If they are recited regularly, then a Muslim gets a double reward and the virtues and benefits of the unique Mauzatain Surah. Behind the revelation of each surah, there is a chosen purpose with two rewards.
